Tanning is
the central process in manufacturing of real leather. It is necessary to make
animal hide usable and turn it into wearable leather material. Tanning includes
getting rid of moistness from animal hide and making it preserved so that it
won’t decay or decompose.

tanning is a more suitable method to do tanning as it takes not as much of time
as short as a day or two to complete the process. To remove the moisture from
the collagen of hide, the chromium salts are used. The leather hides are situated
in barrels or baths of acidic salts and other such chemicals until the chromium
salts displace the water molecules.

There are many benefits allied with chrome tanning. Firstly, the time required for chrome tanning is much lesser than vegetable tanning. It is mostly machine based, so the process is much economical than vegetable tanned leather. The result leather is frivolous and it can be dyed in any color you want. Chrome tanning makes the leather pliable and soft so it will also be flexible and you won’t have to worry about breaking in. it maintains its shape well.

In spite of
the good things of chrome tanning technique, there are some shortcomings you
should know of. First of all, the chemicals used for chrome tanning leather are
extremely harmful for environment. There are many things companies can do to
prevent its hazards on nature but not everyone are following it as it makes it
more costly and hard to apply. There will also be chemical smell on leather due
to chrome tanning.
